Adipex (phentermine) is supposed to be taken only by people with obesity i.e. those whose body mass index exceeds 30. Adipex is complementary to exercise and proper diet. It is unlikely to cause weight loss if you simply take it without doing anything else. Adipex may be taken before meals (before you have breakfast) or at least 10 hours before you are planning to go to bed. Do not take Adipex in larger doses than recommended or for longer than prescribed, as you may develop some unpleasant symptoms, such as irritability, hyperactivity, skin problems and insomnia. Report these side effects to your doctor when you get them as you may require a dose adjustment to make sure you benefit from the treatment. If you think you are not benefitting from Adipex make sure your doctor is notified. Although it is efficient for most patients sometimes your body may respond to the treatment in a way different from planned. If you have some risk factors or particular health conditions discuss them with your health care provider before starting the treatment as some reactions may be prevented. It is not known for sure whether this medicine may affect the health of an unborn baby or if it passes into breast milk. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding make sure your health care provider knows about it before prescribing Adipex. While some side effects of Adipex are mild and tend to go away (headache, anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, diarrhea or constipation, itching or dizziness) other symptoms need to be reported to your doctor as they may be more serious. The serious side effects that you have to report include but are not limited to uneven heartbeat, an increase in blood pressure characterized by chest pain, blurred vision, numbness and severe headache, confusion, restlessness, swelling in the feet or ankles, lightheadedness or fainting. |
